Erectile dysfunction known as impotence in men is the inability to get and sustain an erection suitable for intercourse. Afflictions of erectile dysfunction include diseases affecting blood flow, such as atherosclerosis, nerve disorders, diabetes, psychological factors, such as stress, depression, and performance anxiety and penis deformity. Chronic diseases such as kidney or liver disorders and using certain medications can also cause erectile dysfunction.

To diagnose ED in men your doctor will start with questions about your symptoms and concerns. Your doctor will ask you about how long your problem bothers you and how severe your dysfunction is.  He may adjust special tests to find out any medical problems that may be contributing to the dysfunction.

The doctor may recommend you to visit other doctors, such as a urologist an endocrinologist, a neurologist or a sex therapist. You may have some diseases such as diabetes or atherosclerosis which should be diagnosed and treated properly.
