Stress and Erectile Dysfunction
Stress is a normal physical and psychological body reaction to a dangerous situation. The threat can be perceptible (physical) – street violence or non- obvious or distinct (unphysical) – the fear to lose a job. Stress is natural thing in our everyday life, and some level of stress is in fact, healthy. Short term stress stimulates us to recognize and cope with dangerous situations. When the threatening situation is managed the stress goes away and the processes in our body get normal again. Long term stress has persistent character and can cause physical and psychological disorders.
Constant stress may lead to overeating and weigh gain and thus result in increased risk of diabetes. The negative effects of stress can result in ulcers and stomach upset. People under constant stress often develop different types of depression.
Human organism is formed to perceive stress and react to it. Short term stress makes us to be ready to the dangerous situation, cope with it or avoid it. Long term stress affects all the processes in our organism and impairs general health. Therefore, erectile dysfunction can develop. The main purpose is to manage stress, learn how to relax and to prevent negative character of persistent stress.
Stress is a risk factor for hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and depression which all contribute for erectile dysfunction. Stress narrows the blood vessels in the whole body including penis and thus prevents normal blood flow to all the organs. Sometimes even brief stress affects sexual function and prevents men from performing well in bed. Constant stress may greatly affect different body systems and should be properly treated to keep general health and well –being and restore sexual life.
